Credit Card Debt UK:

Credit Card Debt is a Growing Problem in the UK

More and more we hear about credit card debt; UK debt figures are rising year on year and it’s largely because of credit cards. Or rather, it’s because of how we use credit cards. Most of us get paid monthly, so credit cards could be a great way to afford mid-month purchases when the pay check is due in a few days.

The only winners are credit card companies

If we made the effort to pay off our credit card balance each month, then there would never be such a thing as credit card debt; UK people would also be much wealthier because their original purchases would cost just what the stated price was and we would not bump up the price by adding interest on the credit card debt; UK citizens – in fact, citizens everywhere, just don’t realize this and whilst they don’t realize it, credit card companies win hands down.

When enough is enough

Most people have more than one credit card. That makes it difficult to keep track of your credit card debt; UK governments don’t have any laws about how many credit cards people can have or how much they can spend on them; unfortunately, there are also few laws about what interest credit card companies can charge. Some interest rates are incredibly high and you might be surprised just how much extra your purchases are costing you in interest payments. No wonder there is a huge amount of credit card debt; UK credit card companies and debt consolidation services have never been as prolific as they are now.

All these people are basically a way of getting out of financial trouble, but in order to control credit card debt UK, perhaps what we need is more education about credit cards and how easy it is to build up a debt.

How do credit cards work?

Credit cards allow you to get credit – i.e. money which you can use now, but which you have to pay back later, with added interest. Your credit card is a representative of the credit account that you hold with the credit card supplier. Payments using your card to your credit card debt; UK credit card companies then expect you to pay that back to them and if you don’t pay the total amount borrowed each month, the interest is charged, adding to your credit card debt.

If you pay off nothing at all in a particular month, you also incur a late fee. No wonder it’s easy to incur a credit card debt; UK credit card company’s profits are acquired by the late fees and interest rates, so some of these payments can be very high, and people sometimes find they owe more in interest that  the initial cash they borrowed. Soon a with a relatively small credit card debt UK residents can find themselves with a debt which will have grown into something they just can’t pay off.
